Tech provider for NHS England confirms data breach:

Lightspeed Venture Partners has announced a landmark fundraising milestone, securing $9 billion in new capital—the largest raise in the firm’s 25-year history.

Following the slowdown of venture capital returns after the 2021 investment boom, many limited partners—including endowments, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds—have shifted their allocations toward established venture firms with consistent performance. Lightspeed is among the beneficiaries of this trend.

The announcement comes at a time when IPO activity remains limited. Despite this environment, Lightspeed was an early backer of several companies that have recently gone public, including Rubrik, Netskope, and Navan.

Lightspeed has also increasingly positioned itself as a major investor in artificial intelligence. The firm says it has invested in 165 AI-native startups, with notable names such as Anthropic, xAI, Databricks, Mistral, Glean, Abridge, and Skild AI in its portfolio.

With its expanded capital base, Lightspeed is well positioned to continue backing capital-intensive AI ventures. The firm reportedly committed $1 billion to Anthropic as part of the AI company’s $13 billion funding round in September, which it co-led.

The newly raised capital is distributed across six funds, including a $3.3 billion opportunity fund designed to support follow-on investments in Lightspeed’s fastest-growing portfolio companies.

Lightspeed joins a small group of venture firms that have recently raised sizable funds. Others include Founders Fund, which raised $4.6 billion for a growth-focused fund earlier this year, along with General Catalyst’s $8 billion raise and Andreessen Horowitz’s $7.2 billion fundraising efforts completed in 2024.
