Latest on the U.S. TikTok Deal

TikTok, the popular social media app owned by China’s ByteDance, has been at the center of U.S. controversy for the past four years amid concerns that American user data could be accessed by the Chinese government.

These tensions have directly impacted U.S. users, who earlier this year faced a temporary outage that left millions uncertain before the app was quickly restored. TikTok was later reinstated on both the App Store and Google Play in February.

Meanwhile, several investors are vying for the chance to acquire TikTok’s U.S. business, which analysts at CFRA Research suggest could be valued at more than $60 billion.

After months of negotiations—and following a fourth extension of the U.S. ban deadline—momentum appears to be building. Last week, former President Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping had signed off on a deal that would give a consortium of American investors control of TikTok. ByteDance also confirmed its commitment to keeping the platform accessible to U.S. users.
