Fluidstack Eyes $1B Raise as AI Infrastructure Demand Surges:

AI-focused data center startup Fluidstack is reportedly in discussions to secure a $1 billion funding round at a valuation of $18 billion, according to Bloomberg. The round could be led by Jane Street, and if finalized, would mark a dramatic increase in the company’s valuation within just a few months.

Previously, in December, Fluidstack was said to be raising approximately $700 million at a $7.5 billion valuation. That round, though not officially confirmed, was reportedly backed by the AGI-focused fund Situational Awareness, founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, along with support from prominent investors like the Collison brothers, Nat Friedman, and Daniel Gross.

Funding discussions appear to have continued into early this year, with Google reportedly considering a $100 million contribution to the round.

Investor enthusiasm around Fluidstack is largely driven by its major partnership with Anthropic. In November, Anthropic signed a massive $50 billion agreement with the startup to develop custom AI data centers in Texas and New York. Unlike general-purpose cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Fluidstack focuses exclusively on infrastructure optimized for artificial intelligence workloads.

The deal underscores growing demand for dedicated AI infrastructure. While Anthropic continues to rely on cloud services from Google Cloud and maintains ties with Microsoft, its rapid expansion has created a need for more scalable and specialized capacity—something Fluidstack aims to deliver.

Originally emerging from Oxford and gaining traction in Europe’s AI ecosystem, Fluidstack has since shifted its strategic focus to the U.S. The company relocated its headquarters to New York and reportedly withdrew from a €10 billion AI project in France to prioritize opportunities in the American market.

Overall, Fluidstack’s rapid rise highlights the accelerating race to build infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of AI systems.
