Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Airstrikes and Cyberattacks Disrupt Iran as Internet Blackouts Spread

Airstrikes and Cyberattacks Disrupt Iran as Internet Blackouts Spread:

Cities across Iran, including the capital Tehran, were shaken early Saturday by coordinated airstrikes reportedly led by the United States and Israel. The attacks were said to have targeted senior leadership figures, escalating tensions following days of unsuccessful negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The military action coincided with widespread cyber disruptions. Reports indicate that parts of Iran experienced internet outages while a popular religious mobile application, BadeSaba, was allegedly compromised. Users of the app began receiving unexpected push notifications containing anti-government messages and calls for public uprising.

According to coverage from Wired, the notifications urged citizens to demand accountability and promised amnesty to those who resisted government forces. One message accused the Iranian leadership of “cruel and merciless actions” against civilians, suggesting the platform had been infiltrated to broadcast opposition messaging.

The group responsible for the apparent breach has not been identified. The app reportedly has more than five million downloads, making it a significant communication channel within the country.

Meanwhile, The Jerusalem Post reported that cyber operations were deployed alongside the military strikes, potentially aimed at limiting Iran’s ability to respond. The United States and Israel have previously faced allegations of conducting cyberattacks on Iranian financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges as part of broader pressure campaigns.

The developments unfold amid heightened unrest, following weeks of protests and one of the longest nationwide internet shutdowns in Iran’s recent history.
