AWS Unveils Major Enhancements to Its AI Agent Builder:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding the capabilities of its AI agent-building platform, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, introducing new tools designed to simplify development, monitoring, and governance for enterprise AI agents.

During its annual AWS reinvent conference, the company announced several upgrades focused on agent boundaries, memory, and evaluation systems.

One of the standout features is Policy in Agent Core, which enables developers to define interaction boundaries using natural language. Integrated with the AgentCore Gateway—which links AI agents to external tools—this system automatically reviews each agent action and halts those that violate predefined rules.

Using Policy, teams can restrict access to internal systems or third-party applications like Slack or Salesforce, and even operational permissions. For instance, an AI agent could be allowed to issue refunds up to $100 automatically, but require human intervention for anything beyond that, according to David Richardson, AWS vice president of Agent Core.

Another major addition is AgentCore Evaluations, a collection of 13 built-in evaluation modules that assess agent performance on correctness, safety, tool usage accuracy, and more. These templates also give developers a head start on creating custom evaluation workflows.

“This will help address the biggest concerns organizations have when deploying agents,” Richardson explained. “It’s something everyone wants but is tedious to build from scratch.”

AWS is also introducing AgentCore Memory, a persistent memory system that enables agents to store and recall user information over time—such as preferred flight times or hotel choices—to deliver more personalized and context-aware responses.
