Carragher Slams Amorim's 'Bizarre' Comments on Manchester United's Struggles
Jamie Carragher has strongly criticized Ruben Amorim for his controversial remarks labeling his Manchester United side as "maybe the worst in the club's history." Following United's 3-1 loss to Brighton, Amorim admitted his team’s poor start to the season, but Carragher questioned the wisdom of such a statement, arguing it could harm the manager's credibility.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher stated, "It was one of the most bizarre and ridiculous things I've ever heard a manager say," adding that such comments were more fitting for pundits, not managers. He expressed disbelief over why Amorim would bring up such a statement that would haunt him for the rest of the season.
Carragher also pointed out that Amorim's harsh critique could complicate his relationship with the team, noting, "How can he go into the dressing room and give them belief if he’s labeled them as one of the worst teams in Manchester United history?" He suggested that the manager's handling of the situation could face scrutiny from the club's higher-ups.
Amorim, however, remained steadfast in his approach, stating that he would not change his tactics despite the club's dire situation, indicating that further struggles could be on the horizon. Meanwhile, following the defeat, former United captain Rio Ferdinand called for the sale of three key players to improve the squad's performance.
