Role Overview

This position is a DevOps / SRE hybrid role with a focus on automation, Kubernetes management, observability, and CI/CD pipeline development. Additionally, it has a unique requirement around BPMN process automation using Camunda, so this is slightly more specialized than a typical DevOps role.

Key Responsibilities (Detailed)
1. CI/CD Pipeline Ownership

Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions.

Integrate code quality checks, security scans, and automated tests into pipelines.

Ensure zero-downtime deployments (blue/green, canary) for microservices.

Collaborate with developers to streamline build & release processes.

2. Kubernetes & Cloud Operations

Manage Kubernetes clusters in both cloud (GCP GKE preferred) and on-prem environments.

Set up namespaces, resource quotas, autoscaling, ingress controllers, and network policies.

Troubleshoot pod failures, service mesh issues, and performance bottlenecks.

Ensure cost-optimized, secure, and highly available cluster operations.

3. Observability & Incident Management

Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or ELK stack.

Define SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs to measure system reliability.

Configure dashboards for real-time system visibility and business KPIs.

Participate in on-call rotations, handle incidents, and perform root cause analysis (RCA).

4. Camunda (BPMN Platform) Management

Install, configure, and scale Camunda (or similar BPMN engines) in production environments.

Set up database connections, HA/DR strategy, clustering, and network security.

Monitor process execution, job workers, and optimize performance.

Troubleshoot process failures, message correlations, and connectivity issues.

5. Infrastructure Automation

Use Terraform or Helm charts to provision and manage infrastructure as code (IaC).

Standardize cluster setup, networking, and app deployments using repeatable templates.

Ensure consistent environments across Dev, QA, and Prod.

6. Security & Compliance

Apply DevSecOps best practices (e.g., secrets management with Vault/KMS, IAM policies).

Ensure container image scanning, vulnerability patching, and compliance audits.

Work with InfoSec teams to implement required security controls.

7. Cross-functional Collaboration

Work with developers, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth releases.

Facilitate communication between business stakeholders and technical teams.

Provide knowledge transfer and documentation for DevOps processes.

Required Skills & Competencies
Area Skills Needed
CI/CD Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, artifact repositories (Nexus/Artifactory), automated testing integration
Containerization & Orchestration Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS), Helm, Docker, service mesh (Istio/Linkerd), cluster scaling
Monitoring & Logging Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK, alert rules, SLO/SLI dashboards
Cloud Platforms GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure – knowledge of VPC, IAM, load balancers, storage, networking
BPMN (Camunda) Installation, HA setup, user task and job execution monitoring, performance tuning
IaC & Automation Terraform, Ansible (plus Chef/Puppet optional), scripting with Bash/Python/Go
Security Secrets management, compliance enforcement, image scanning, RBAC/ABAC in Kubernetes
Soft Skills Incident response, RCA writing, stakeholder communication, team collaboration
Expectations for Success

Proactivity: Automate manual tasks, identify bottlenecks, and suggest improvements.

Reliability: Keep systems stable and production-ready with minimal downtime.

Collaboration: Act as the bridge between Dev, QA, and Ops, driving a DevOps culture.

Incident Response: Respond quickly during outages, minimize MTTR, and document learnings.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated on Kubernetes upgrades, Camunda versions, and new DevOps tools.
