Zoom Unveils Cross-App AI Notetaker, AI Avatars, and More at Zoomtopia:

At its Zoomtopia conference on Wednesday, Zoom announced a suite of new AI-powered tools, including an upgraded AI companion that works across meeting apps, AI-generated avatars, smarter scheduling features, and enhanced notetaking. The updates are aimed at helping Zoom better compete with specialized meeting startups and integrated productivity suites.

Zoom has long offered an AI bot to record and transcribe meetings, but rivals like Read AI, Otter, Fireflies, Granola, and Circleback have expanded the concept across platforms. To catch up, Zoom’s cross-application AI notetaker will now work with Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and even in-person meetings. Users can also jot down their own notes during a call and later have AI expand and organize them, mirroring Granola’s approach.

The update also brings cross-platform search, letting users retrieve meeting data and documents across Google and Microsoft ecosystems. On the scheduling front, Zoom’s AI companion will suggest common time slots, propose meetings to skip via a “free up my time” option, and surface proactive recommendations like agenda items and tasks to improve meeting prep.

Another highlight is the introduction of photorealistic AI avatars. These avatars mimic a user’s movements on video — a useful option for moments when someone isn’t “camera-ready.” Zoom CEO Eric Yuan showcased the feature earlier this year. While innovative, the company acknowledged potential deepfake risks, noting IT teams may want to limit their use. The avatars are expected to roll out to consumers by the end of the year.

With these updates, Zoom is positioning itself not just as a video-conferencing tool, but as a comprehensive productivity platform that blends AI-driven automation, scheduling, and collaboration features.
