Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: YouTube Tests New “Custom Feed” to Fix Its Cluttered Home Recommendations

YouTube Tests New “Custom Feed” to Fix Its Cluttered Home Recommendations:

YouTube is experimenting with a new feature aimed at improving the often chaotic and irrelevant home feed experience. The upcoming tool, called “Your Custom Feed,” is designed to give users more direct control over the content they see — a welcome solution for anyone frustrated by algorithmic recommendations that miss the mark.
For years, YouTube’s algorithm has been known to misinterpret user behavior. Watching just a handful of Disney clips, for example, might convince the platform that you’re a dedicated fan, flooding your feed with similar videos you never intended to follow.

The experimental feature appears alongside the standard Home button on the platform. Users who are part of the test group can tap “Your Custom Feed” and enter prompts that reflect their actual interests.
Rather than endlessly scrolling through videos that don’t resonate, you can now directly influence your recommendations. Want more cooking content? Type it in — and YouTube will start prioritizing relevant videos in your feed.

While it’s still early to gauge whether this tool will become widely adopted, it has the potential to transform how users interact with the platform. It may even serve as a more efficient alternative to manually marking videos as “Not interested” or selecting “Don’t recommend channel.” YouTube isn’t alone in moving toward customizable content feeds. Threads has been testing a similar algorithm-tuning feature, and X is developing a system that lets users tag its AI chatbot, Grok, to help refine their recommendations.
