Instagram is developing a new way for users to influence their Threads feed by “tagging” the platform’s algorithm directly.

The feature, spotted in development by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, appears to be part of a broader set of algorithm-configuration tools also headed to Instagram. Paluzzi discovered the code and shared it with TechCrunch. Instagram later confirmed the feature is an internal prototype that has not yet entered public testing.

An official Threads account tied to the experiment — @threads.algo — is already live and followed by several Meta engineers. According to Paluzzi’s findings, Threads would prompt users with a screen explaining that tagging this account could help signal what they’d like to see more or less of in their feed.

The idea echoes a concept recently teased by Elon Musk for X. Musk said the platform will eventually let users tag Grok, its AI chatbot, to dynamically adjust their timelines — promising that X’s algorithm will be “purely AI by November.”
