Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Perplexity Expands Its AI Browser Comet to Android, Bringing Smarter Search to Mobile

Perplexity Expands Its AI Browser Comet to Android, Bringing Smarter Search to Mobile:

Perplexity, the AI search startup, has officially launched its Comet browser on Android, extending the AI-powered experience it first introduced on desktop in July. The Android version retains most of the desktop capabilities, offering users a more intelligent and interactive way to browse the web.

With Comet on Android, users can set Perplexity as their default search engine and reference open tabs directly when asking the AI assistant questions. The browser also supports voice commands, allowing users to query information across all open tabs and request summaries of searches.

Perplexity says Comet can even research and shop on the user’s behalf, with full visibility into the actions the assistant is taking. The Android version also includes a built-in ad blocker for a cleaner browsing experience.
More features are on the way. In the coming weeks, Perplexity plans to introduce:
A conversational agent capable of searching across websites and performing actions
Shortcut options for quick assistant-driven tasks
A fully functional password manager

Earlier this month, the company enhanced its desktop Comet Assistant to handle more complex, longer-running tasks, such as transferring data from websites into spreadsheets. Although Android received the first mobile release, Perplexity confirmed that Comet for iOS is coming soon. The company prioritized Android due to strong interest from carriers and device manufacturers—though no official partnerships have been announced yet.
