OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Pulse, a new way to start your day

OpenAI is introducing Pulse, a new feature within ChatGPT that creates personalized morning briefs for users while they sleep. Designed to deliver five to 10 tailored updates, Pulse helps people catch up quickly at the start of their day — positioning ChatGPT as a go-to morning companion alongside news and social media apps.

The feature reflects OpenAI’s broader shift toward making ChatGPT work asynchronously — providing value without waiting for user prompts. Recent additions like ChatGPT Agent and Codex have already pushed the platform closer to acting like a true assistant. With Pulse, OpenAI is taking another step toward making the tool more proactive.

“We’re building AI that lets us take the level of support that only the wealthiest have been able to afford and make it available to everyone over time,” said Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s new CEO of Applications. “ChatGPT Pulse is the first step in that direction — starting with Pro users today, with plans to expand to all.”

For now, Pulse is limited to subscribers of OpenAI’s $200-per-month Pro plan, where it appears as a new tab inside the ChatGPT app. The company intends to expand access to Plus subscribers in the future, but only after optimizing the feature for efficiency.

The reports themselves can vary widely — from news updates on a favorite sports team to customized recommendations based on personal context. In a demo for TechCrunch, OpenAI product lead Adam Fry highlighted examples such as Arsenal FC news roundups, Halloween costume suggestions for his family, and a toddler-friendly travel itinerary for an upcoming trip to Sedona, Arizona.

The rollout comes as OpenAI balances user demand with limited computing resources. CEO Sam Altman recently noted that some of the company’s most compute-intensive products, including Pulse, will initially remain exclusive to higher-tier plans. To address capacity challenges, OpenAI is rapidly expanding its infrastructure through partnerships with Oracle and SoftBank.
