Cloud Is Becoming Core to Google’s Future:

For years, Google Cloud has been overshadowed—both by its parent company’s dominant advertising business and by rivals like AWS and Microsoft Azure. But that dynamic is shifting.

In its most recent earnings, Google reported that Cloud revenue hit $43.2 billion in 2024, up from $33.1 billion in 2023.

The unit is now running at a $50 billion annual revenue rate, with $58 billion in future commitments already secured, according to cloud chief Thomas Kurian.

Google says it works with nine of the 10 leading AI labs worldwide—including Safe Superintelligence and OpenAI—and now supports 60% of generative AI startups globally.

Over the past year alone, the company has seen a 20% surge in new AI startups choosing Google Cloud, highlighting how deeply AI is tied to the platform’s expansion.

The importance of these wins cannot be overstated. AI startups are among the most compute-hungry customers in the world, requiring vast GPU clusters and high-performance infrastructure for model training, fine-tuning, and deployment.
