Meet Macroscope: An AI Tool for Understanding Codebases and Fixing Bugs

The team behind Periscope, the livestreaming startup acquired by Twitter, has launched a new venture — this time in the AI space.

On Wednesday, former Twitter head of product Kayvon Beykpour unveiled Macroscope, an AI-powered system built to help developers and product leaders manage codebases more effectively. The tool can summarize code updates, detect bugs, and streamline workflows, reducing the time engineers spend on manual tracking and meetings.

Beykpour, who now serves as Macroscope’s CEO, co-founded the startup in July 2023 with longtime collaborator Joe Bernstein (also of Periscope and their earlier startup Terriblyclever, acquired by Blackboard in 2009). They’re joined by Rob Bishop, co-founder of Magic Pony Technology, which Twitter bought in 2016 for its expertise in computer vision and machine learning.

Macroscope positions itself as an “AI-powered understanding engine”, a tool the founders say they wish had existed during their earlier ventures. According to Beykpour, developers currently juggle multiple systems like JIRA, Linear, and spreadsheets, often at the expense of actual coding. Macroscope’s goal is to cut down on busywork and free up engineers to focus on building.
