A medical professional has articulated the reasons why chicken soup serves as an optimal remedy for individuals experiencing illness.

Registered dietitian nutritionist Kara Collier noted that while soup does not cure the common cold, it can alleviate certain symptoms associated with being unwell.
According to Collier, chicken is 'an excellent source of the amino acid cysteine,' which is recognized for its ability to alleviate cold symptoms and thin mucus.

Additionally, individuals can enhance their soup with various seasonings and vegetables, which, like chicken, contribute to the management of cold-related symptoms.

Collier informed Fox News Digital through the New York Post that 'the vegetables and seasonings, such as garlic and herbs, incorporated into chicken soup can also supply essential minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids that bolster our immune system.'

While chicken soup is effective in alleviating cold symptoms, it does not provide a complete cure.
One of the key components of the soup that significantly impacts how a person feels is the broth, which Collier referred to as 'the base of chicken soup' in the New York Post.
The broth delivers fluids and electrolytes that assist the body in combating infections during illness.
Collier remarked, 'Your usual hydration methods may not be appealing or sufficient to meet your increased needs when feeling unwell, so having something soothing and easy to consume can make a significant difference.'

She further added, 'The warm broth itself may also aid in opening congested nasal and throat passages, thereby improving the management of cold and flu symptoms.'

Utah physician Dr. Andrew Peterson also emphasized that broth is rich in proteins and peptides that can enhance immune function and provide an energy boost.
While chicken soup is available for purchase in stores, a homemade version can be equally nutritious, particularly when it includes ingredients that may not be present in canned varieties.

Peterson conveyed to Fox News Digital via the New York Post that 'a healthy homemade chicken soup typically contains vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onions.'
