Ben Stokes to Undergo Surgery on Hamstring Injury, Set to Miss India Tour and Champions Trophy
Ben Stokes has been confirmed to need surgery on his damaged left hamstring after a recent consultation with a specialist. The 33-year-old underwent scans in Leeds that revealed a tear in the muscle, and he is set to have an operation in January. This news comes just a day after it was announced that Stokes would miss England’s limited-overs tour of India starting on January 17, as well as the Champions Trophy in February and March. The injury occurred during the third Test in Hamilton, part of England’s recent 2-1 series win over New Zealand.
The rehabilitation following Stokes' surgery will keep him out of action for several months, but the plan is for him to return fully fit for the start of England's home international summer in May. The England Test captain, who has battled this injury since August, is determined not to slow down in his pursuit of being a key all-rounder for the team. His next big challenges include a Test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in late May and a five-match series against India, followed by an attempt to win an away Ashes series in 2025.
Despite suffering from the hamstring issue twice since August, first during the Hundred for Northern Superchargers and then during the Test in New Zealand, Stokes remains resolute in his goal of maintaining his role as a leading all-rounder for England. His determination to recover fully for the upcoming challenges demonstrates his commitment to playing a central role in England’s cricketing future.
